brambling in ossett
We went 'oop north' to visit S's family for the weekend and lucked out with sunny weather, so we went in search of wild brambles (blackberries).
It was not the most auspicious start.
S's dad braved the thorns and nettles, and carefully cradled his first hard-won bramble.
But it got better soon.
And soon we had enough for bramble pie.
Delicious bramble pie...
...with custard.
Actually, I stretch the truth a bit. This pie was from A&C's previous bramble picking expedition. C made bramble crumble from ours the next day. Can't have too many brambles, but it's possible to have too many nettles...
It was a lovely, relaxing weekend and we were very well-fed! Thanks, everyone xo

Pic of the Week: 2-8 Aug
Two pix this week from my 36-hour trip to Dublin with my sister and brother-in-law in June 2006.
Looking at the ColorSplashed version of the top photo makes me wish that my shiny red patent leather Minnie Mouse clogs were still wearable. I love(d) them. They are still taking up space in my closet because I don't have the heart to throw them away but they really are beyond hope.
